- To offer economically disadvantaged, minority students nearly full four-year scholarships to private secondary schools in the Buffalo-Niagara region.
- To increase the community outreach and diversity of
local private secondary schools
- Established in 1998 in collaboration with the
Buffalo Independent Secondary Schools Network (BISSNET)
- More than 100 scholarships awarded to date for "Oishei
Scholars" to attend 16 local private secondary
schools
- Annual scholarship support totaling over $505,000
- Applicants must be
accepted to the freshman class at one of BISSNET's
member schools
- Applicants must be economically disadvantaged, minority candidates
- Each school is required to select and nominate three
candidates, using a common application form
- An individual applicant may be nominated by only one
school
- The program is jointly administered by the
Foundation, BISSNET and a committee of representatives
from the BISSNET schools
- Scholarship recipients are selected by a separate,
independent Selection Committee consisting of community
representatives
appointed by the Foundation
- BISSNET and Buffalo Prep work collaboratively to provide
ongoing program monitoring, including feedback from
participating schools, students and parents

March 1st, 2008
- Announcement of winners: April 3rd, 2008
